MIPCOM: 'The X Factor' in the U.K. Sells Worldwide

The flagship TV talent show that launched a global franchise sells to 147 national territories

Simon Cowell's Syco Entertainment and FremantleMedia International on Monday unveiled 147 territorial deals worldwide for the U.K. version of The X Factor.

Terms of the licensing deals were not disclosed, but the international networks set to acquire ITV's The X Factor include AXS in the U.S. market, MNET for pan-regional Africa, RTL CBS Asia Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television Networks for Latin America.

The list of other broadcasters picking up the original U.K. version that launched a global TV franchise includes Yes TV in Canada, Denmark's DR, TV3 in Ireland, Sky in Italy and Viacom 18 for sub-continental India. The show which launched in 2004 and has spawned popular musical acts like One Direction, Little Mix and Ella Henderson, currently secures around 10 million viewers per episode in Britain.

"The U.K. X Factor was the original version of the show and over the last decade it has set the benchmark all over the world for finding and launching international superstars," Cowell said on Monday in a statement.

The X Factor format is currently produced locally in 51 territories worldwide.
