MIPTV buyers snap up Canada kids shows

'Jungle,' 'Pet Spectacular' among early sales

TORONTO -- The Canadian contingent in Cannes unveiled a flurry of kids TV and animation deals Monday.

Canadian distributor Decode Enterprises sold Halifax Film's preschool puppet series "Mighty Jungle" to the U.S.-based Sprout channel.

And Canadian cartoon producer Cookie Jar Entertainment said it will team up with South Africa's Clockwork Zoo to co-produce the animated series "Peter Pepper's Pet Spectacular" this year.

The CBC also ordered 26 episodes of the Canadian-South Africa co-production.

Elsewhere, Canadian producer Portfolio Entertainment and domestic cartoon channel Teletoon will co-produce "Hood," a cross-platform, half-hour cartoon about exceptional teens who don super-charged hoodies to defend the world.

Also on the new media front, Canadian broadcaster Bite TV acquired the British online sitcom "Apollo's Pad" for its TV, Internet and mobile platforms.
