MIPTV: Ex-Disney Exec Dan Cohen to Head International TV Sales Business at Paramount
As the new president of worldwide television licensing, Cohen will report directly to new Paramount COO Andrew Gumpert.
The executive reshuffling at struggling studio Paramount Pictures has secured its first major international hire, with longtime Disney executive Dan Cohen joining Paramount as the new president of worldwide television licensing.
Cohen, who has spent the past 20 years at Disney/ABC, most recently as executive vp pay-TV and digital sales for home entertainment and television distribution for Walt Disney Studios, will oversee the global licensing and distribution of all of Paramount's film, TV series and other content. He will report directly to Andrew Gumpert, the former Sony exec that took over as COO at Paramount in November.
“I’m thrilled to bring aboard a seasoned executive like Dan, who was the force behind some of the most important pay-TV licensing deals in our industry,” Gumpert said in a statement. “He has a proven track record of growing the business while discovering the ideal distribution platforms for content. I look forward to working with him to maximize our revenue opportunities for Paramount’s films, series and catalogs.”
Just last week, Hollywood veteran Jim Gianopulos was named the new chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures. Gianopulos, who started at Paramount but made his career rising through the international ranks at Fox, will step into the new post Monday and is tasked by parent company Viacom with righting the studio, set adrift following the recent departure of longtime Paramount chief Brad Grey.
