MIPTV: Fox's SCM Picks Up Mini-Series Slate From Japan's Wowow
Fox Networks Group Asia has acquired pan-Asian rights to five mini-series from the Japanese pay-TV broadcaster.
Fox Networks Group Asia has acquired pan-Asian rights to five mini-series from Japanese pay-TV broadcaster Wowow.
The announcement was made by Wowow's president, Akira Tanaka, at MipTV in Cannes Tuesday.
The slate of series, produced under Wowow's Drama W banner, will be broadcast on SCM, FNGA's flagship movie channel in the region, beginning May 1. SCM took rights to the series for Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and 12 other territories across Southeast Asia.
Mini-series are a new programming category for SCM. The network, which was previously known as Star Chinese Movies, is known for airing hit films from greater China. The acquisition follows recent indications from SCM that it will begin producing original Chinese-language mini-series of its own.
The shows included in the deal are Presumption Of Guilt, a mystery thriller about a man wrongly accused of the murder of a child; Stars in the Deep, a drama about Japan’s first female submarine captain; finance thriller Shingari; crime drama Cocoon of Stone; and Enka-Gold Rush, a high-school mystery thriller based on the novel Enka by Hiroyuki Kurokawa.
