MIPTV: History's 'Texas Rising' to Get World Premiere

The eight-part epic will open the TV confab in Cannes before its theatrical opening and cable debut in the U.S.

MIPTV will raise a glass to Texas Rising as the History channel series will open the international market with a splashy world premiere in Cannes on April 13.

The miniseries has an all-star cast of Bill Paxton, Olivier Martinez, Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Thomas Jane, Chad Michael Murray, Kris Kristofferson and Max Thieriot. The show details the rise of the Texas Rangers as they fight for an independent Texas.

The cast will hold a Q&A and walk the red carpet of the MIP opening gala after the premiere. Two-time Oscar-nominated director Roland Joffe (The Killing Fields, The Mission) directs the eight-part epic.

The first episode will debut on History in the U.S. on Memorial Day, with a theatrical opening of the first episode in AMC and Cinemark theaters one week before the small-screen premiere.

The series was produced by A+E Studios and ITV Studios America, in association with Thinkfactory Media.

Hatfields & McCoy's Leslie Greif executive produced, and Dirk Hoogstra, Elaine Frontain Bryant and Julian P. Hobbs served as executives in charge of production for History.

ITV is handling global distribution outside of North America. MIPTV will take place in Cannes April 13-16.
