Two of Universal's big summer releases, "Wanted" and "Hellboy II: The Golden Army," will bookend Film Independent's 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival.

Although the movies' respective directors, Timur Bekmambetov and Guillermo Del Toro, have roots in the indie world that the festival champions, their two latest films are designed as mainstream entertainment.

"Wanted," an adaptation of Mark Miller's graphic novel starring James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, will kick off the fest June 19 at the Mann Village Theatre in Westwood.

"Hellboy II," starring Ron Perlman, will serve as the closing-night film June 28 at the Mann Village Theatre. The fest, which takes place primarily throughout the Westwood area, concludes June 29.

Sacha Gervasi's documentary "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" will screen June 26 as the centerpiece premiere at the Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood. (partialdiff)
