Awards come in for

TV Land said Wednesday that its sixth annual TV Land Awards will be taped June 8 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica before premiering on the network at 9 p.m. June 15. The awards show, which honors the best of classic and current television, also will honor movies this year for the first time.

New look for 'Ellen'

"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" is going high-def and getting a new home. The daytime talker, whose sixth season premieres Sept. 8, will be produced and broadcast in HD after moving its production operations to a newly constructed, state-of-the-art facility on the Warner Bros. Studios lot in Burbank. "Ellen" is distributed by Warner Bros. and produced by A Very Good Production and WAD Prods. in association with Telepictures Prods.

Casino promotion

Bruce Casino has been upped to senior vp cable and ancillary sales at NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution. New York-based Casino, who was vp cable and ancillary sales, will continue handling off-network distribution of NBC Universal television programming and film to cable and broadcast networks. He played a key role in recent off-network sales campaigns for such NBC Universal shows as "House" and "Heroes" as well as a variety of major movie packages, including FX's recent deal for Universal Pictures' 2008 slate.


Cable TV system operator Mediacom Communications reported a narrower than expected quarterly loss, helped by an increase in revenue from video and high-speed data. The first-quarter net loss more than doubled to $30.6 million, and revenue increased 10.3% to $339.7 million.

Ad chief tapped

CaribeVision, a Hispanic television network dedicated to serving Caribbean Hispanic audiences, has named Emilio Nicolas Jr. president and CEO of advertising, a newly created position. CaribeVision management now will be led by two divisional presidents: Nicolas and Carlos Barba, president and CEO of programming.

A kick from Coldplay

Music by Coldplay will be featured next month in promotions for ESPN's coverage of the European Championship soccer tournament, the sports network said Wednesday. ESPN agreed to incorporate music from Coldplay's new release, "Viva La Vida," into game and studio productions. The quadrennial tournament is set to run June 7-29 in Austria and Switzerland.

Enough with the 'Sex'

Oxygen's "Talk Sex," a call-in show starring seventysomething educator Sue Johanson, is ending its run after six seasons, the Associated Press reported. The final episode, which will count down the year's top 10 sex toys, airs at midnight Sunday. Show content will continue to be available on Oxygen's Web site and on-demand.
