Criterion working Blu

Beginning in October, the high-brow Criterion Collection DVD line will bring out Blu-ray Disc editions of its films, featuring all the bonus materials on the DVDs and priced the same — something of a surprise given that Blu-ray titles typically command a premium of $5-$15 over standard DVD. Criterion's pipeline includes "The Man Who Fell to Earth," "The Third Man" and "Bottle Rocket."

Young digs into 'Archive'

Neil Young is again pushing the technological envelope. The singer-songwriter has announced his intent to release the long-anticipated "Archive" project on Blu-ray Disc. The first 10-disc set will chronicle 1963-72 and include high-def audio recordings of all his songs as well as videos, handwritten manuscripts and other memorabilia.

Margera boards abroad

Professional skateboarder and MTV personality Bam Margera is filming a direct-to-video comedy that will be released in December by Warner Home Video. Production began in Finland last month on "Bam's X-mas X-capade," which stars Margera and his crew as they travel abroad to find a perfect Christmas present for Bam's wife.

WHV gets 'Cool'

Warner Home Video will release a deluxe DVD and Blu-ray Disc edition of "Cool Hand Luke" on Sept. 9. The 1967 drama, starring Paul Newman, has been remastered and arrives on disc accompanied by a wealth of new featurettes, including a making-of documentary, a profile of the real Cool Hand Luke and a mini-docu showing one day of film production on a country road near Stockton, Calif.
