Rapper Young Jeezy will play the hip-hop artist at the center of writer-actor- producer Ice Cube's comedy "Janky Promoters," about a pair of shady concert promoters in over their heads. Marcus Raboy is directing the Dimension comedy, which is shooting. "Janky" marks Jeezy's first film role. The rap star is working on the release of his third album, "The Recession," through CTE/Def Jam.


Right-wing Dutch politician Geert Wilders is planning a sequel to his anti-Muslim film "Fitna," the local daily De Telegraaf said Tuesday. The move follows Monday's decision by the Dutch Ministry of Justice not to prosecute him for inciting hatred with his film, which denounced the Quran. About 40 complaints were filed by Muslim and non-Muslim organizations in the Netherlands after "Fitna" was released online.


Composer Gabriel Yared will stage a musical tribute honoring the late director Anthony Minghella at the film music-oriented Ghent International Film Festival on Oct. 15 in Ghent, Belgium. Yared, who worked with Minghella on "The English Patient," "Cold Mountain" and "The Talented Mr. Ripley," will conduct a concert of musical suites from those films for chamber orchestra and solo performers.


Robert Carlyle has joined Sean Connery and Tilda Swinton as a patron of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, organizers said Tuesday. Carlyle, invited by Connery for the honorary role, accepted shortly after this year's event closed Sunday. EIFF artistic director Hannah McGill described Carlyle as "a loyal supporter of the festival and a passionate advocate for the domestic industry."


Paramount Pictures Mexico has picked up Mexican distribution rights to Carlos Carrera's thriller "Backyard — El Traspatio," marking Paramount's first acquisition there since it replaced United International Pictures Mexico last year. The Indigo Films production, which centers on a homicide investigation in Ciudad Juarez, features Ana de la Reguera, Joaquin Cosio, Sayed Badreya and Jimmy Smits. Sabina Berman penned the script for Carrera, who directed Mexico's all-time boxoffice leader, "The Crime of Father Amaro." Paramount looks to release "Backyard" nationwide next year.
