Silverman honor at Caucus gala

Veteran TV executive and producer Fred Silverman will receive the 2008 Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors Lifetime Achievement Award, while producer John Berzner will be given the Distinguished Service Award. The awards gala is Dec. 7 at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Bestowing 'Crown'

Viewers will have the opportunity to vote on four Miss America contestants who they think deserve to make it into the pageant through TLC's four-part series "Countdown to the Crown," debuting Jan. 2.

Comedy first

Comedy Central's "Jeff Dunham's Very Special Christmas Special" averaged 6.6 million total viewers Sunday, making it the most-watched telecast in network history. The second episode of Animal Planet's "Whale Wars" averaged 1.1 million viewers, ranking as the network's most-watched Friday primetime telecast in five years. Meanwhile, the finale of MTV's "Total Request Live" averaged only 813,000 viewers Sunday night, while HBO's "True Blood" hit another series high with 2.7 million viewers.

A&E translated

German channels have bought out A&E's catalog, led by RTL, which acquired the first two seasons of the top-rated History Channel series "Ice Road Truckers." RTL 2, Tele 5 and public broadcaster ZDF ARTE also acquired shows.
