USA was the most-watched basic cable network in primetime for 2008, averaging more adults 18-49 (1.3 million) and adults 25-54 (1.3 million) than any other network for a third consecutive year. USA also was tops in primetime in total viewers (2.8 million) and said it topped broadcaster the CW.

'Party' people

Starz has tapped Ken Marino, Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen and Lizzy Caplan to star in "Party Down." The new series, about a hapless catering team, will air in March.

HBO lawyers up

Tom Woodbury has been named general counsel and executive vp network business affairs at HBO. He will serve as HBO's chief legal officer and as chief legal liaison to Time Warner.

Boutte to 'Browns'

Denise Boutte has been cast as a series regular in Tyler Perry's new comedy "Meet the Browns," set to debut next month on TBS. She is repped by Innovative Artists and manager Charles Newman.

First pitch

The MLB Network will bow Jan. 1 with the original telecast of Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series. The channel will sign on at 6 p.m. ET with a live studio show; the game begins at 7 p.m.

OWN hire

Liz Dolan has been named chief marketing officer at OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, effective Jan. 5. She was marketing head at Nike.
