mayor decries HBO pimp show

Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums is not happy that an HBO drama exploring prostitution is set to be filmed in the city. The show, "Gentlemen of Leisure," is based on the 1999 documentary "American Pimp" and will focus on a middle-aged pimp who wants to get out of the business. Production is scheduled for next year, though no permits have been issued for filming. Dellums and other city officials said they worry the show would promote a negative image of the city.

Stepping up

Marissa Jaret Winokur is set to host Oxygen's new dance and weight-loss competition series "Dance Your Ass Off," premiering next year. She currently is reprising her role as Tracy Turnblad in the Broadway musical "Hairspray" and has competed on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars."

Lifetime Mum on ads

Lifetime declined comment on a MediaPost report that it has started returning money to advertisers who made upfront deals for "Project Runway" in the summer. The show's status is in limbo because of a pending lawsuit that also involves NBC Universal, parent of "Runway's" previous home, Bravo, and producer the Weinstein Co.
