The now-17-year-old actress' mother was accused in 2012 of emotionally abusing her.

Ariel Winter says she is now an emancipated minor.

"I am now officially emancipated!!!" tweeted 17-year-old Winter, who plays Alex Dunphy on the ABC sitcom. "I'm really lucky I have an amazing support system and lovely people in my life who have given me the support and guidance to have been given this wonderful opportunity."

Winter gave credit to her sister, Shanelle Gray, and their father for their help. Gray became Winter's legal guardian in 2012 after the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services claimed that Workman had been emotionally abusing Winter. Their father was given control of Winter's finances in 2014.

"Most importantly, I want to thank @shanelle_gray and my father for their special support regarding this matter, I really couldn't have done it without them," she wrote, adding that she also appreciated her fans' encouragement. "I can't wait to embark on my new adventures."

Winter's rep declined to comment. The actress' tweet can be seen below.
