Moscow channel eyes wider audience

Federal status would give TVC $5 mil a year

MOSCOW -- Moscow's city government wants to turn its TVC television channel into a national service.

Speaking at a city government meeting Tuesday, Mayor Yuri Luzhkov said that, as the channel is already being watched by people in several regions, the time has come for TVC to apply for a "federal" status.

Business paper RBC Daily reported that obtaining federal status would give TVC financial preferences amounting to about $5 million a year.
