MPAA taps Oster for communications

Seth Oster, a former SAG executive with extensive experience in political and entertainment communications, on Tuesday was named executive vp communications at the MPAA.

Based in Los Angeles and reporting to MPAA chairman and CEO Dan Glickman, Oster will serve as a member of the trade association's senior management group and oversee its global communications and public affairs operations.

In another staff move announced Tuesday, John Feehery, a senior MPAA government-relations executive based in Washington, will add global legislative affairs to his portfolio. Feehery joined the MPAA in 2005 after serving as a top aide to the congressional leadership.

Oster, who worked for MPAA president Robert Pisano when Pisano was CEO of SAG, served as a top communications aide to U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. He also held posts at the American Film Institute, Napster and Hill & Knowlton Public Relations.

Since leaving his post as SAG's chief communications officer last year, Oster has been a partner in Entertainment Strategies Group, a labor relations and strategic communications consulting firm.

"Now more than ever, the MPAA is battling not only for the hearts and minds of policymakers in Washington but also for those of consumers around the world," Glickman said. "Seth's unique combination of expertise in the worlds of entertainment, politics and technology will make him a critical lieutenant in our worldwide efforts to spur the growth of our industry in the new digital environment."

Oster said he is "honored to join the management team of one of the entertainment industry's most important and essential institutions."

Also based in Los Angeles, vp communications Kori Bernards will report to Oster. Gayle Osterberg, vp communications in the MPAA's Washington office, also will report to Oster.
