MPI Media Group has picked up the North American rights to Yelling to the Sky, a drama starring Zoe Kravitz and Gabourey Sidibe.
MPI is known for its home video distribution but is planning a spring 2012 theatrical release for the film, which is the directorial debut of actress Victoria Mahoney. The company will then follow-up with a release on DVD and VOD.
The movie screened at the 2011 Berlin Film Festival as well as SXSW, and centers on a 17-year-old girl, played by X-Men: First Class actress Kravitz, who must fend for herself in a tough neighborhood when her family falls apart.
Also in the cast are Tim Blake Nelson, Jason Clarke and Antonique Smith.
Yelling was produced by Mahoney, Billy Mulligan, Diane Houslin and Ged Dickersin.
Sales outfit Submarine repped the movie in the deal.
