MTV moves VMAs to Los Angeles

Set to air live from Paramount on Sept. 7

The MTV Video Music Awards are headed to Los Angeles this year.

The ceremony is set to air live from the Paramount Pictures lot on Sept. 7 one time only in its original form.

In addition, MTV is letting fans decide this year's nominees, who will be announced at a later date along with the host, performers and presenters.

"The glamour and musical heritage of L.A. are sure to be catalysts for creating explosive pop culture moments that the VMAs are known for," MTV Networks Music Group president Van Toffler said.

Jesse Ignjatovic will executive produce the 2008 VMAs with Dave Sirulnick.

Last year's show took place in Las Vegas.
