MTV Networks taps GM of music brands

Rebecca Batties returns to net in Australia, New Zealand

SYDNEY -- MTV Networks International and Discovery Channels veteran Rebecca Batties takes over as GM of music brands at MTV Networks Australia and New Zealand, effective Aug. 25.

MTV says she will lead the programming, production, creative marketing, communications and talent and artist functions of the network and oversee content strategy across all platforms.

She will be based in Sydney, and reports to the company's managing director Dave Sibley. Melbourne-born Batties started her career Down Under in college radio and music journalism.

Sibley said in a statement, "We are delighted to have secured such an outstanding executive for the role of general manager, music brands. The growth curve of our channel and the opportunities provided by digital distribution merit a top class team and Rebecca is an amazing addition."

As New York-based vp international programming, marketing and operations in the '90s, Batties played an important role in the launch of MTV in Australia, New Zealand and Russia. She also helped direct the launch of MTV in Italy and Germany, as well as VH1 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Batties then joined Discovery Channel, where she developed Discovery Lifestyle Networks. Until recently, she served as senior vp creative development and brand management, Batties was responsible for the creative direction of the company's 19 brands marketed outside the U.S.
