BTS at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The group won four awards during the show including best pop and best group.
South Korean boy band BTS performed a live TV debut of their English language single "Dynamite" at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards on Saturday, taking the stage in suits and ties.
The seven-member group, which consists of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, RM and Jungkook, maintained their signature high-energy as they perfected each choreographed dance move against a revolving backdrop of cityscapes, skyscrapers, flashing billboards and a pink sunset.
At the end of the performance, fireworks appeared behind the group, fitting for the lyrics "So I'm-a light it up like dynamite."
This was the group's first time performing at the music event. They were nominated for multiple awards including best pop, best k-pop and best group, all of which they won. BTS also took the award for best choreography for their "On" visual.
Formed in 2010, BTS achieved worldwide prominence with their studio albums Love Yourself: Tear and Map of the Soul: 7, released under the label Big Hit Entertainment in 2018 and 2020, respectively.
In light of the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing guidelines, the VMAs this year were characterized by performances taking place from iconic outdoor locations in New York City. Other performers included Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and The Weeknd.
Among the big wins of the evening, video of the year went to The Weeknd for "Blinding Lights," while Lady Gaga won artist of the year.
New categories relevant to current times were added among the nominations, including best music video from home, which went to Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber for "Stuck With U."
Hosted by Hustlers actress Keke Palmer, the VMAs were simulcast across multiple ViacomCBS brands including VH1 and Comedy Central.
