Taylor Schilling, Dianna Agron and Rita Ora each rocked statement eyes (think sleek black-rimmed or smoky eyes with gobs of mascara on top of false lashes) as well as super nude, almost nonexistent, lip color for this year’s AMAs.
It’s a classic music awards show way to go for beauty, as it’s edgy and creates a blank enough “canvas” to be a little out of the box. In Ora’s case, her eyelids are dusted with a vibrant canary yellow shadow to match her strapless Zac Posen sculptural gown, topped off with a striking topknot (which, she claims, was done in the car on the way to the show).
Agron’s look was “sexy and smoky,” according to her makeup artist, Georgie Eisdell, who prepared the actress’ skin with Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate to keep it extra hydrated over the course of the long night, followed by Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream Intense Hydration.
“Dianna’s eyes were the focus,” says Eisdell. “We haven’t used a lot of color lately, so I wanted to give her eyes a little something special.”
The makeup artist used Chanel’s Illusion D’ombre in Diapason and Fantasme on the eyelid, blending it up into the crease, then brought it under the eye to create a smoky effect.
For Schilling’s beauty look, Eisdell again focused on a dramatically lined eye, which is a bit of a departure for the usually fresh-faced actress.
“Taylor’s look tonight was very much about her skin and enhancing her natural beauty. Simple and chic,” says Eisdell. The makeup artist evened out Schilling’s skin with Kiehl’s Skin Tone Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream in Fair/ Light. Dior’s SkinFlash brightened the eye area and Chanel Cream Blush in Revelation gave the cheek a beautiful sheen.
The Orange Is the New Black actress’ lids were left bare, but a few strokes of Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen in Deeper along the lash line gave her a dramatic cat-eye effect.
“I finished the eye with Kevin Aucoin’s Essential Mascara in Rich Black, and then a few Stilazzi individual lashes to create a fluffy fullness to her natural lashes,” says Eisdell.
For that barely there lip, the artist mixed Kiehls Lip Balm #1 with Jouer Lip Shine in Ibiza.
The 2014 American Music Awards are produced by Dick Clark Productions, a sister company of the Hollywood Reporter.
