‘CRIED’ OUT: It’s been eight months since Candice Glover was crowned the winner of season 12 of American Idol. The 24-year-old singer from Beaufort, S.C. made her Billboard chart debut just a few days after the finale with her coronation song, “I Am Beautiful.” That tune appeared on eight different charts, with peak positions that ranged from No. 93 on the Hot 100 to No. 6 on Heatseekers Songs. This week, Glover returns to the pages of Billboard with her latest single, “Cried.” The track debuts at No. 28 on Adult R&B.
This radio format has been especially welcoming to Idol alumnae. Glover’s new single is one of five Idol songs on the current tally. Fantasia has three songs on the list: “Without Me” (featuring Kelly Rowland and Missy Elliott), holding at No. 3 after peaking one rung higher; “Love & Sex” (with Joe), rebounding 19-18; and “Side Effects of You,” slipping 21-22 but with a bullet indicating increased airplay over last week. The other Idol on the Adult R&B chart this week is Jennifer Hudson with “I Can’t Describe (The Way I Feel),” down 11-12, also with a bullet for gains in airplay over the previous week.
Glover’s “Cried” is from her album Music Speaks, set for release on Feb. 18.

FLYING HIGH: Daughtry’s single “Waiting for Superman” is up-up-and-away this week, with a move of 87-66 on the Hot 100 and a jump of 32-21 on Pop Digital Songs. The song debuts at No. 27 on Adult Contemporary.
The parent album, Baptized, leaps 46-38 on The Billboard 200 and holds at No. 14 on Top Rock Albums.
On the Canadian Hot 100, “Waiting for Superman” re-enters at No. 100.

CHRISTMAS LEFTOVERS: The holidays are finally over, so it’s no shock that Kelly Clarkson’s seasonal Wrapped in Red plunges 10-64 on The Billboard 200. What is surprising is that the Christmas-themed release takes a very short slide from 5-7 on Top Internet Albums.
Elsewhere, Clarkson’s Greatest Hits: Chapter One moves back up The Billboard 200, from 165-147.
BITS AND PIECES: Scotty McCreery’s single “See You Tonight” begins its descent on some charts, but returns to Country Streaming Songs at No. 24… Kellie Pickler’s “Little Bit Gypsy” is up 58-57 on Country Airplay, while her album, The Woman I Am, climbs 38-35 on Top Country Albums… Phillip Phillips continues to have two titles on the Rock Digital Songs chart. “Gone, Gone, Gone” begins its second year on this survey, with a slight decrease in status as it moves 20-21. More amazing, “Home” is in its 85th week on the chart and is moving up again, from 30-26.
