“It’s almost that time of year America,” intones American Idol fixture Randy Jackson in the third of a series of commercials touting the show’s return this January.

It’s a terrific strategy, shining the spotlight on what appears to be future contestants competing for the title, while the judges put the focus where it belongs: hopes and dreams.
The spot hits all the right notes, set against a dreamy piano score with images of each judge speaking against a backdrop of golden lighting.
“To all the dreamers,” smiles Carey.
“To everyone who thought they’d never have a chance,” continues Minaj.
“It’s time to make dreams come true,” promises Urban.

American Idol returns Jan. 16.
