In a season that is getting ever more unpredictable as its Jan. 7 premiere nears, American Idol unveiled another surprise early on Monday: the top 24 finalists.
“It’s an Idol first,” said host Ryan Seacrest in a two-minute preview. “Before we even show you the auditions, we are going to introduce you to the top 24.”

Framed in silhouette, each vocalist sings a line of Nina Simone‘s “Feeling Good” and as the song continues, the individuality of each vocalist comes out. There are soulful singers, at least two rockers, voices with jazz influences, country roots and flat-out powerhouses.
Seacrest — who revealed earlier this month that the performance and results show will be combined in one night — explained that viewers will get to vote for their favorites as season 14 goes on.
