Season four finalist Anthony Fedorov and his fiancee Jennifer Paz are first-time parents. Their son, Julian Paz Fedorov, was born at 6:08 p.m. CDT on April 1 in a suburb northwest of Chicago.
“We thought he was going to be an Easter baby,” Paz tells The Hollywood Reporter in an exclusive interview. “We tried to avoid having an April Fool’s baby but we decided he’s a fool for love.” Fedorov adds, “We sent private messages to our families, quoting the song lyric, ‘Wise man say, only fools rush in, and I can’t help falling in love with you.’ We can’t help falling in love with Julian.”
Paz was originally scheduled to have a Caesarian on April 8, but when she went to see her physician, Dr. Anna Bobba, for her 37th week check-up on March 25, she was having contractions and Bobba advised moving up the birth date. Paz entered St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, a suburb located northwest of Chicago, on Easter Sunday, which is why she thought Julian would have a birthdate of “3-31-13.”
Julian, born at 7lbs, 2 oz, is the eighth grandchild for Paz’s parents and the first for Fedorov’s mom and dad. Anthony and Jennifer considered a few names but chose Julian because it is, “strong, artistic and romantic.”

Ever the performer, Anthony serenaded Paz in the delivery room. “I started with the song I sang when I asked her to marry me, ‘Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin,’ her favorite song in her native language, Tagalog,” he says. Then after a few lines of “Let It Be,” “Piano Man” and “Juke Box Hero,” Anthony was told to get his camera, because Julian was ready to come into the world. “He arrived crying in perfect pitch,” says Fedorov. “Like a backing vocalist for Anthony,” cracks Paz.
Julian’s early vocal prowess may be due to the couple’s frequent vocalizing during their son’s time in the womb. During the nine months of Jennifer’s pregnancy, Julian heard his father singing with 7th Heaven and his mother performing on tour in Do You Hear the People Sing, a concert of songs composed by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, the writers of two shows Paz has starred in, Les Miserables and Miss Saigon.
Both mother and father describe Julian as a “perfect baby.” Adds Paz: “I’ve wanted to be a mother for so long. When we started dating, this was one of the things we had in common, wanting to start a family. It was just a question of when.”

Fedorov has also waited for this day for a long time. “I’ve wanted to be a father ever since I was a teenager,” he explains. “When I was 14 years old, all I wanted to do was find the love of my life. I had no idea how that was going to happen or who that ultimate person would be. When I met Jennifer, I knew she was the one. Outside of being an artist/performer, I felt like my calling in life was to be a father.”
Life has already changed for the new parents but they have embraced those changes. “The nurses were very excited because Anthony was so enthusiastic about changing Julian’s diapers in the hospital,” says Paz. Fedorov elaborates: “Now I live for poopy diapers. It means his body is working properly. With every poop, I’m the happiest father in the world.”
