The price for the three-bedroom property came in above the list price of $2.9 million (£1.8 million), but below the $4.3 million (£2.7 million) price tag that the family had originally been looking for.
Four parties bid for the house, the Independent reported. The auction happened at the headquarters of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
Winehouse was found dead with alcohol poisoning in the house in London’s Camden neighborhood last year. She was 27. Toxicology reports found alcohol in the singer’s body, but showed that Winehouse was clear of illegal drugs.
A spokesman for the Winehouse family had said earlier this year that the family felt it would be inappropriate for any of them to live in her house. “It was not practical to keep it empty while paying the costs of its upkeep,” he said.
The Independent also reported Monday that Jimmy Savile’s former penthouse flat in Leeds, England, where the BBC TV host now accused of a slew of sexual abuse cases died last year, has also been sold.
The paper cited a list price of $523,000 (£325,000), but no sales price. Proceeds were originally earmarked for the Jimmy Savile Charitable Trust. However, the trust was dissolved amid the abuse allegations.
