Avril Lavigne is using the occasion of her 29th birthday to launch a crowdfunding campaign for her foundation, which helps kids with disabilities.
The grand prize winner of the Prizeo initiative, which runs through October 29, 2013 and can be entered with a micropayment of $3, will not only attend the pop star’s album release party in November, but will accompany Lavigne on the red carpet. Proceeds from the campaign, which launches on Sept. 11, will benefit a range of projects, including providing music therapy services at Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA.
“The reason I’m doing this is to enable the foundation to continue its incredible work supporting kids with serious illness or disabilities,” says Lavigne, who also filmed a promo for the campaign.

Adds Prizeo co-founder Leo Seigal: “Partnering with Avril to raise both funds and awareness is a great opportunity to help kids and to show the true power of a highly engaged fan community. … This ‘social multiplier effect’ will likely make for a truly historical fundraising experience.”
Lavigne’s campaign follows a highly successful effort by One Direction’s Harry Styles and Liam Payne, which raised nearly $800,000 for cancer research and prevention programs.
