Several things went into L’Oreal Paris celebrity makeup artist Sir John’s vision for Beyonce’s makeup look for the Met Gala. For one, “I was inspired when I saw [her] with all of her hair off her face,” he says. “It automatically gave her an awakened child-like look that I wanted to enhance with a bit of an anime vibe.”
Then there was that dress—or rather the jewels she strategically decorated herself in. Says Sir John, “I also wanted to play up her makeup since her Givenchy gown was long, sheer and covered in jewels.”

The makeup artist wanted to over-exaggerate a fresh, youthful appearance so he played up her luminous skin tone with a mix of L’Oreal Paris True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator in Golden and Rose on the cheeks, atop L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation ($13) to keep her T-zone matte.
On her eyes, he popped her tan skin by contrasting it with pale mint-hued eyelids. The mod eye look was created with a mix of L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Endless Sea and Infinite Sky ($8).

Furthermore, he created a “deer in headlights” look with L’Oreal Paris The Super Slim Liner by Infallible ($9) to her top lids and in the lash line, keeping the bottom lash line clean to make her eyes even wider. “Tons” of L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara ($8) was the final step. Besides, one would imagine, a bit of double-stick tape.
