Now that Ryan Adams has covered “Summer of ’69,” he and Bryan Adams are officially eternally entwined and it seems really OK. Bryan Adams is even looking to repay the favor.
He told SFGate that he heard the cover and might cover one of Ryan Adams’ tracks down the line.
“Ryan wrote to me to tell me the day before that he was going to do it,” he said. “I think it was some sort of cathartic release for him to return to that venue and play that song, as you probably know the story there.”
“So I think in some ways, he has been haunted by the song somewhat, which is a shame because it’s a really great song. Anyway, I’m happy he did it. He’s a great artist. And sure I’d sing one of his songs, I’m not sure which one though.”
Bryan Adams was referring to an episode 13 years ago where Ryan Adams kicked out a heckler from Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium for requesting Bryan Adams’ classic rock hit at his show. (You know, because their names are so similar.)
What a difference 13 years can make.
