With little more than a week to go before her U.S. debut album Kiss hits shelves, Carly Rae Jepsen has released her newest single, “This Kiss.” The catchy pop track follows Jepsen’s smash single, “Call Me Maybe,” and her duet with Owl City, “Good Time.”
Produced by LMFAO’s RedFoo and Jepsen’s rumored boyfriend, singer-songwriter Matthew Koma, the upbeat “This Kiss” seems poised to be the Canadian singer’s second stuck-in-your-head hit, with lyrics like, “This kiss is something I can’t resist. / Your lips are undeniable. / This kiss is something I can’t risk. / Your heart is unreliable.”
The song was released on iTunes on Monday (Sept. 10). Listen to “This Kiss” below.
“This Kiss” is the first single since Jepsen announced her upcoming “Kiss” album last month. Kiss, due on Schoolboy Records/604 Records/Interscope, drops Sept. 18. The 16-song track list includes “Call Me Maybe” and “Good Time,” plus “Beautiful,” a duet with Justin Bieber.
Max Martin, Dallas Austin, Toby Gad and Marianas Trench all worked on the new album with Jepsen. “The record is pop. It’s inspired by Robyn, the Cars, Madonna, and believe it or not, James Taylor,” Jepsen said of Kiss in a statement. “I can’t wait to share it with everyone!”
Jepsen has been enjoying the success of “Call Me Maybe” since the song was released as a single in the U.S. in February, when Bieber made a viral video using the song and tweeted it out to his then-20 million or so Twitter followers.
The hit track was named Billboard’s Song of the Summer last week, having spent nine weeks atop the Hot 100. The song has sold 5.5 million downloads since its release, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and garnered an astounding 2 billion in cumulative audience on Billboard’s Radio Songs chart, according to Nielsen BDS. Owl City duet “Good Time” is currently bulleted at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, its highest rank so far.
Later this month, 26-year-old Jepsen will head out on tour with Bieber and an as-of-yet unannounced guest, kicking off a North American tour that begins Sept. 29 in Glendale, Ariz. and wraps Jan. 27 in Miami, Fla.
