Later on, the duo posted another message which shed a little more light on the situation. “We sincerely apologize for the canceling of all of our tour dates. It is something we deeply regret. However, due to internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition we are unable to continue as a touring entity at this time. We thank each and every one of you for your amazing love & support. Our sincere hope is to have new music for you in 2013.”
The note was signed, Joy Williams & John Paul White.
The European trek kicked off on Oct. 28 in Belfast, Ireland and was scheduled to continue until Dec.12 in Oslo, Norway, after which the group had booked additional U.S. and Australian dates.

Among the called-off engagements was a scheduled performance at the Ann Arbor Folk Festival this January. A spokesman for the festival released this statement, “We’ve just received word that The Civil Wars has canceled all tour dates for 2013. We have received no details at this time. We join The Civil Wars’ management in saying thanks for your understanding and your support. We’re at work on a worthy replacement and will post that news as soon as possible.”
