Danny Gokey can now add “author” to his list of accomplishments.
The season-eight American Idol alum, who lost his first wife, Sophia Martinez, to complications following surgery for congenital heart disease, will tell his story in his forthcoming memoir, Hope in Front of Me. The book, which will include personal photos and illustrations, will be published in October by NavPress, a Christian publisher.
The 32-year old Milwaukee native will address his time on Idol, as well as the healing process after Sophia’s death in 2008.
“It has been a gratifying process to be able to share the parts of my story that many people may not know. My hope is that people can find a part of their story in mine and that it will inspire hope in others,” said Gokey in a release. “There ARE new beginnings. You CAN recover after devastating loss. Your past does not have to define you or your future.”
Gokey’s tale of hope has a happy ending. The singer and his second wife, Leyicet, welcomed a son, Daniel Emanuel, in January.
Gokey continues with his charity, Sophia’s Heart, a philanthropic foundation set up to provide assistance to disadvantaged children.
