Arcade Fire has shared video of their New Orleans tribute to David Bowie.
The Canadian alternative rock outfit joined the Preservation Hall Jazz Band for a Jan. 16 street parade, fittingly titled “Pretty Things” (pinched from a track on Bowie’s illuminating 1971 album Hunky Dory).
Organizers urged attendees to wear their “best Bowie outfit or something more strange.” Judging by the vision posted on Wednesday (Feb. 10), the Bowie dress-code was strongly adhered to.
“We are here today to celebrate the life of David Bowie. There are few artists that can possibly bring together this incredible group of people,” Preservation Hall creative director Ben Jaffe told the gathering masses in the film, before Win Butler and co. carved their way through the crowd with a cover of “Heroes.”
Bowie and Arcade Fire recorded a live EP together in 2005, featuring the former’s “Life on Mars?” and “Five Years” and the latter’s “Wake Up.”
Like countless other musicians, Arcade Fire’s bandmembers were crushed by the new of Bowie’s death on Jan. 10, at the age of 69. Win Butler issued a statement on Bowie. “I will take to the grave the moments we shared,” he said, “talking, playing music and collaborating as some of the most profound and memorable moments of my life.”
