While people around the globe mourn David Bowie’s death in different ways, one man in Rome has set up a petition on change.org simply requesting “Say no to David Bowie dead.”
Addressed to “God or whom it may concern,” the petition, set up by marketing executive Andrea Natella says: “David Bowie cannot be dead!”
It had already garnered more than 4,800 of the requested 5,000 signatures as of Wednesday mid-day local time.
“It’s a way to think about the way that David Bowie, like other famous people, died like a fictional character,” Natella told The Independent about his reasons for setting up the petition. “I suppose it’s also a way we can highlight how ineffective most web petitioning can be!”
Fans of Bowie are using the comments section on the petition to pay their respects to the late singer, who died on Sunday after a battle with liver cancer.
“It’s so sad to live in a world without Bowie,” wrote a user in France. “David Bowie is supposed to be immortal. This is a mistake. Please correct. Amen,” commented one fan from San Francisco. And a fan from North Carolina wrote: “The world needs more beauty and Bowie was a person who tirelessly tried to create that.”
