Grammy-winning folk singer Doc Watson remains in critical condition after undergoing colon surgery last week.
As of Monday night, there had been no change in his condition, according to a statement from Folklore Productions International, which represents Watson.
Over the weekend, the company said Watson’s family thanked his friends and well-wishers for their interest, but “would appreciate privacy during this trying time.”
The singer and guitarist is celebrated for his flatpicking style of guitar playing, and is the winner of several Grammys, include a Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also a recipient of the National Medal of the Arts.
In 1988, the folk singer founded Merlefest to honor his late son and musical collaborator, who died in a farming accident in 1985.
