AP ImagesDays after Drake Bell tweeted and deleted a controversial comment about Caitlyn Jenner‘s transition, the former Nickelodeon star is apologizing for his “thoughtless insensitive remarks.”
The actor and musician weighed in on Jenner’s transition, revealed on a much-discussed Vanity Fair cover on Monday, by tweeting “Sorry…still calling you Bruce.”
Bruce Jenner told Diane Sawyer in an interview that aired at the end of April that he was transitioning to a woman, but the Olympic medal-winning track star continued to go by “Bruce” until Monday’s debut of Vanity Fair‘s cover, featuring a photo of Jenner as a transgender woman and the headline, “Call me Caitlyn.”
Bell’s initial tweet was deleted shortly after he posted it and he also tweeted and deleted, “Good thing social media has no effect on real life” and “I’m not dissing him! I just don’t want to forget his legacy! He is the greatest athlete of all time! Chill out!”
Now Bell is apologizing, tweeting on Thursday that he “in no way meant to hurt or demean those going through a similar journey” and that he regrets the “negative effect” his comments, “made in innocence,” had.
