The 2017 Much Music Video Award nominations were unveiled on Thursday, and Canadians Shawn Mendes, Grimes and A Tribe Call Red lead the field with four each.
Close behind with three mentions each are Alessia Cara, Drake, Ed Sheeran (a former MMVAs host), Lorde, PUP, The Weeknd and Zeds Dead.
Mendes will compete for best pop video with “Mercy,” while Grimes will contend with “Venus Fly.”
The MMVAs, hosted last year by supermodel Gigi Hadid, will be held once again at the Much Music headquarters in Toronto. The most buzzworthy international artist category this year will see Sheeran, Iggy Azalea, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga and Lorde vie for the honor.
Performers Arkells and Niall Horan each picked up two nominations, while DNCE, Iggy Azalea, Imagine Dragons, Jazz Cartier and Post Malone nabbed one each.
Performers for the event include Imagine Dragons, Jazz Cartier, Julia Michaels and Post Malone. The Canadian video awards show provides a platform for the U.S.-based iHeartRadio, formerly known as Clear Channel, which last year signed an exclusive pact with Canadian broadcaster Bell Media to launch its brand in Canada.
The MMVAs will air live on June 18 on the CTV and Much channels.
