English indie rock band Florence + The Machine will take over the Friday night headline slot at this year’s Glastonbury Festival after the withdrawal of the Foo Fighters.
Organizers announced the change on the festival’s Twitter account. “We’re very pleased to announce that Florence + The Machine will play the Friday night Pyramid headline slot,” they said in a statement. The group is fronted by Florence Welch.

The Foo Fighters canceled the rest of their European tour earlier this week, including their Glastonbury gig, after frontman Dave Grohl fell and broke his leg onstage in Sweden.
“Once we heard the sad news that Foo Fighters had been forced to pull out, there was only one person we wanted to call and that was Florence,” said Emily Eavis, one of the Glastonbury organizers. “Every time she has played here she’s done something spectacular and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid one day. I’m delighted she’s agreed to step up to it – she’s going to smash it!”
Glastonbury was founded by dairy farmer Michael Eavis on his Worthy Farm in Somerset, England. The first concert event in 1970 attracted 1,500 attendees. Today, the event is one of the largest greenfield festivals in the world, with an annual attendance of more than 175,000.
