NEW YORK — The Foo Fighters are to set to make even more noise during Austin’s South by Southwest Festival this year. The band will perform its current single, “Rope” — which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Rock Songs chart — at the mtvU Woodie Awards on Mar. 16, one day after a feature-length documentary chronicling the Foos’ history will premiere to close out the film portion of SXSW.
The performance of “Rope” will be preceded by its music video premiere on Mar. 10 on MTV and MTV.com. The Foo Fighters will introduce the premiere live from the home of a “super-fan” in Los Angeles.
The Foo Fighters are among an array of acts billed to play the Woodies, which recognizes the top artists as voted by college-aged music fans. Other performers include Wiz Khalifa, Sleigh Bells, Odd Future and Two Door Cinema Club. The show airs Mar. 16 at midnight on MTV.
The Foos’ slew of appearances precedes the Apr. 12 release of Wasting Light, their seventh studio album and attempt at all-analog recordings, which were completed in frontman Dave Grohl‘s garage.
