“While working with Alex on Glee, I immediately realized how broad and unique his talent was and knew that he would be a great addition to the Deep Well/Atlantic Records family,” said Anders.
Added Craig Kallman, chairman and CEO of Atlantic Records: “Alex is such an undeniable talent with one of the most unique and distinct voices I’ve heard in a long time.”
The 21-year-old Massachusetts native was discovered on the first season of Oxygen’s The Glee Project, on which he finished as the runner-up. Though Newell initially was cast on Glee for just a two-episode arc, he quickly proved to be a fan favorite and was upped to series regular for the musical dramedy’s current fifth season. Newell also is featured in the upcoming Huffington Pictures film Geography Club, out Nov. 15.
“I am thrilled to join this new family and take another step in my career,” said Newell. “Singing is my passion and to now have the opportunity to make my own music is a dream come true! I can’t thank my new Atlantic and Deep Well family enough for welcoming me with open arms.”
