Kanye West leads the nominees for the 54th annual Grammy Awards with a total of seven mentions, including song of the year and best rap-sung collaboration.
Adele, Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars followed the hip-hop star with six nominees apiece, while Lil Wayne and Skrillex each earned five noms.
While West led the nominees, he wasn’t cited in the album of the year category for either November 2010 release My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy or August’s Watch the Throne, a collaboration with Jay-Z (both would have been eligible under the 12-month period Oct. 1, 2010-Sept. 30, 2011).
Vying for the top award will be Adele (21), Foo Fighters (Wasting Light), Lady Gaga (Born This Way), Bruno Mars (Doo-Wops & Hooligans) and Rihanna (Loud).
Adele and Mars also will compete for record of the year honors with “Rolling in the Deep” and “Grenade,” respectively. Also nominated in that category were Bon Iver (“Holocene”), Mumford & Sons (“The Cave”) and Katy Perry (“Firework”).
