It’s shaping up as the year of the rookie at the Grammys. Of the nominees announced Wednesday for album, record and song of the year, only Taylor Swift previously had been nominated in any of the three top categories.
Meanwhile, Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, fun., Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean and Kanye West lead the nominees for the 55th annual Grammy Awards with six apiece. The Black Keys, Chick Corea and Miguel are next with five mentions apiece.

The nominations were announced during The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night. The hourlong special, which CBS aired live in the East from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, was hosted by LL Cool J and Swift and featured performances by The Band Perry and Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, fun. and Janelle Monae, Hunter Hayes, Maroon 5, Ne-Yo and The Who.
Surprisingly, four of the five nominees for the marquee prize — album of the year — are rock acts: The Black Keys’ El Camino, fun.’s Some Nights, Mumford & Sons’ Babel and Jack White‘s Blunderbuss will vie against Ocean’s Channel Orange. White was nominated for the prize as a member of The White Stripes with Elephant in 2004, but Blunderbuss is his solo debut.
It’s the second year in a row that no country act is up for album of the year. Swift’s Red was released too late for Grammy consideration; the cut-off date for eligibility was Sept. 30, and her hit album was issued Oct. 22.
The Black Keys and Ocean also were cited in the record of the year category for “Lonely Boy” and “Thinkin Bout You,” respectively, alongside Kelly Clarkson (“Stronger [What Doesn’t Kill You]”), fun. featuring Monae (“We Are Young”), Gotye featuring Kimbra (“Somebody That I Used to Know”) and Swift (“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”). Swift’s single was released in time to be Grammy-eligible.

“We Are Young” and “Stronger” also are up for song of the year, along with Ed Sheeran‘s “The A Team,” Miguel’s “Adorn” and Carly Rae Jepsen‘s summer smash “Call Me Maybe.”
Meanwhile, fun., Ocean and Hayes will vie for best new artist in a field that also includes Alabama Shakes and The Lumineers.
The Black Keys’ Auerbach landed his sixth nomination in the category of producer of the year, nonclassical. The other nominees are Jeff Bhasker, Diplo, Markus Dravs and Salaam Remi.
The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will be held Sunday, Feb. 10, at Staples Center in Los Angeles and air live on CBS from 8-11:30 p.m. The show is produced by AEG Ehrlich Ventures, with Ken Ehrlich as executive producer and Louis J. Horvitz as director.
