British singer-songwriter Charli XCX is growing up, and she’s got the look to prove it. The 22-year-old English beauty stepped out on the Grammys red carpet in an elegant white Moschino suit, with makeup and nails to match.
“She had the opportunity to switch it up, now that she has a signature look,” says makeup artist Colby Smith of the starlet, who is typically known for her bold-red-lip and black-eyeliner combo.
Riffing off of Charli XCX’s bubblegum pink bow tie and the metallic sheen of her Jeremy Scott-designed suit, Smith set out to create a softer look for the pop star. To achieve her shimmery eyes, Smith began with Nyx Proof It Eye Shadow Primer, followed by Nyx Slide On Eye Pencil in Platinum and Giorgio Armani Eye Tint in Onyx, rounded out with a dusting of Nyx Love in Rio Eye Shadow Palette to highlight the pop star’s inner eyelids. To complete the look, Smith turned to a sweep of Nyx Collection Noir Liquid Black Liner across the lash line and a coat of Nyx Doll Eye Waterproof Mascara.
In the same less-is-more vein, Smith also chose to use individual lash inserts to play up Charli’s eyes, in lieu of heavier lash strips. “She has incredible lashes, anyway,” he notes.
And it wasn’t just the star’s makeup that spelled sophistication on Sunday: Charli XCX also rocked an equally refined manicure on her all-natural nails. Nail artist Julie Kandalec prepped the singer’s tips with a base coat of Essie’s Marshmallow, followed by a glittery pink coat of Essie Luxeffects Glitter Top Coat in A Cut Above and a final coat of Marshmallow — which not only toned down the shade but added an extra layer of dimension.
