Keeping true to its Season 10 promise, American Idol, 19 Recordings and new music partners Interscope Geffen A&M will release studio versions of individual songs performed by the Top 13 contestants immediately following Wednesday’s performance show. For the first time in the show’s history, a compilation album will also be offered. Music will be available for download on iTunes starting at 10 p.m. PST on March 9.
The 13 tracks are studio versions of songs chosen and performed by the
Idols on Wednesday’s show. Each was recorded under the guidance of in-house mentor
Jimmy Iovine and his team, which includes producers such as
Ron Fair (
Christina Aguilera,
Mary J. Blige),
Rodney Jerkins (
Britney Spears, Michael Jackson),
Don Was (
Willie Nelson,
Garth Brooks),
Jim Jonsin (
Usher,
Pitbull),
Rock Mafia (
Miley Cyrus,
Selena Gomez) and
“Tricky” Stewart (
Rihanna,
Justin Bieber).
The compilation album will sell for $7.99.
Since Season 7, when recordings were first offered for download, American Idol finalists have been steady sellers on iTunes. “The number could well surge once these latest songs are available for download, thanks to the popularity of the Season 10 contestants,” says Idol creator and executive producer Simon Fuller in a statement. “The Season 10 top 13 contestants have already got America talking.”
