Jack White to Kick off ‘American Express Unstaged’ Concert Series

Jack White will help launch this year’s “American Express Unstaged” music series with an April 27 show at New York City’s Webster Hall.

The event will be helmed by actor-director Gary Oldman, and live-streamed via White’s VEVO channel on YouTube as well as on mobile devices and YouTube apps for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android.

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to collaborate with the incomparable and talented Jack White,” said Oldman. “The plan is to immerse the ‘Unstaged’ livestream audience in both a highly stylized and energetic viewing experience.”

The company’s “Unstaged” series, coming into its third year, pairs recording artists with high-profile directors. Previous duos include: Arcade Fire and Terry Gilliam; David Lynch and Duran Duran, and My Morning Jacket and Todd Haynes.

Tickets for the White-Oldman concert go on sale beginning Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET for the general public and earlier at noon for American Express cardmembers.

White’s debut solo album, Blunderbuss, arrives April 24 via Third Man Records and will kick off a US tour on May 15 in Nashville, Tenn. Last month, he revealed that he will only reform the White Stripes if the band were to hit bankruptcy.

“I would probably say absolutely not. Absolutely no chance. I couldn’t see any reason to ever do that,” he said. “I’m not the kind of person that would retire from baseball and come out of retirement the next year.”

Oldman was Oscar-nominated this year for his role in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. His directing credits include 1997’s Nil by Mouth, the short film Donut and the music video for Alex Eden‘s debut single, “Kiss Me Like the Woman You Loved.”
