Toronto pop rockers Magic! on Tuesday snagged a field-leading five nominations for the Juno music awards, Canada’s version of the Grammys.
Dance breakout sensation Kiesza is up for four noms, while rockers Hedley, Nickelback and Serge Fiori each earned three nominations. Nominations for the Junos were unveiled during a press conference on Tuesday in Toronto.
Magic! snagged nominations for Juno Fan Choice, best single, best breakthrough group, best songwriter and best pop album.
Kiesza will also contend in the best single and best breakthrough group categories, while also receiving noms for best dance recording and best video of the year.
Also competing in the best pop album competition along with Magic! is Avril Lavigne, Down With Webster!, Lights and Nikki Yanofsky. And Drake was nominated in the best single category for Hold On (We’re Going Home).
Best artist nominees include Bryan Adams, Deadmaus, Leonard Cohen, Sarah McLachlan and The Weekend. Elsewhere, the best international album of the year competition, driven by domestic retail-sales performance, will be fought out by Katy Perry, Lorde, One Direction, Sam Smith and Taylor Swift.
And the Fan Choice award, voted on by ordinary Canadians, saw Arcade Fire, Bobby Bazini, Drake, Hedley, Leonard Cohen, Michael Buble, Nickelback and You+ Me get nominated.
The Junos, organized by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, will take place in Hamilton, Ontario on March 15 and air on the CTV network.
