Organizers said Wednesday that Justin Bieber is set to receive an award at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival. Bieber and his manager, Scooter Braun, are expected to attend the Disruptive Innovation Awards ceremony, where they will be honored for their contributions “in the worlds of business, technology, arts, entertainment and beyond.”

Specifically, Bieber and Braun are receiving their awards “for the historic discovery of Bieber on YouTube and his subsequent social media rise,” according to an announcement on the festival’s website. They join a group of honorees that include Twitter and Square founder Jack Dorsey and Room to Read founder John Wood, both of whom are receiving Lifetime Achievement Awards, as well as iconic music producer Rick Rubin, for “founding Def Jam Records 30 years ago in an NYU dorm room.”

The April 27 awards ceremony will be hosted by the NYU Stern School of Business. It follows Tribeca Film Institute’s Interactive Day, which is being held April 23 and will feature a discussion about HBO’s successful “multi-sensory fan engagement program” for Game of Thrones, entitled “An Interactive Case Study.”
