Justin Bieber Promises He’s “Passionate About Being Better” in “an Awesome Chapter in My Life”

Justin Bieber has found a safe place to make public appearances — on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The recently reclusive musician returned to the Burbank studio in an episode airing Thursday, following his surprise appearance last week — his first TV interview in a while. He later followed his live chat with a confessional video on Facebook, in which he told fans, “Basically, I’ve been acting [out] in the past year, year and a half, and I’m not what I was pretending to be. … I really wanted people to know how much I care, how much I care about people and how I’m not that person to say that ‘I don’t give a f—.’ I’m not that kid. I’m a person that genuinely, genuinely cares. And although what’s happened in the past has happened, I just want to make the best impression on people and be kind and loving and gentle and soft.”

“It was the first time I was on television for a long time, and I just was worried about what people were thinking about me,” Bieber told Ellen DeGeneres. “Like I said last time, I did a lot of things over the past few years that I’m not proud of. But yeah, I was just nervous to be in front of people again and talk in front of them.” He added that he posted the apologetic Facebook video because “I thought I just looked really extra nervous, and I kind of just wanted to explain myself.”

After DeGeneres pointed out that celebrities in general are often nervous in the spotlight, Bieber agreed. “I am a human. … People often forget that. Even with their comments and stuff, they think it doesn’t get to me, but it gets to me. Things that people say bother me, and I gotta be strong enough to just keep it pushing. That’s why I just wanted to make a video, to just let people know that I’m human.”

“I love people, I love love, I’m passionate about things, and I’m passionate about being better and growing, so I think that this is going to be an awesome chapter in my life, and I’m so glad that I have you guys supporting me,” he concluded.

DeGeneres happily asked him to appear weekly to combat his nerves about TV appearances.
