Justin Bieber’s fairytale story of superstardom is one nearly all aspiring artists would envy, but being the most famous 18-year-old in the country — and, quite possibly, the world — has its drawbacks.
“There were so many times when I just wanted to say, ‘Enough is enough, I don’t want to do this anymore,’” Bieber revealed to The Hollywood Reporter at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards.

The pop phenom was speaking specifically of an emotion he lays bare in the title track to his forthcoming album Believe (out June 19) and the lyric he says he’s most proud of: “You kept my heart from falling.” Says Bieber: “I think it’s so important to me because it’s about my fans and how much they’ve helped me. They really have kept my heart from falling because they’ve always been there and supported me and cheered me on.”
Indeed, judging from the mania of the crowd assembled at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Arena for Billboard’s big show, the Canadian pop phenom’s fans were out in full force, and got especially vocal when Bieber took home the trophy for Top Social Artist. With 22 million followers on Twitter, it’s one that was undoubtedly well deserved.

At the podium, Bieber thanked those closest to him, chief among them manager Scooter Braun. “He helps me get through every day and is just a positive role model,” said Bieber. Usher also got a shout-out from the stage, and kudos for being “a big help on the new album” and taking “the time to really care.”
Bieber-Braun discovery Carly Rae Jepsen also had a big moment at the Billboard Awards, performing the hit song “Call Me Maybe.”
