Getty ImagesJustin Timberlake was making quite a bit of noise Friday in Nashville — and that was well before he ever hit the stage for a much-anticipated show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Earlier in the week, the singer did an interview with the Tennessean where he stated that he would definitely be interested in doing some work in Music City… at some point.
On Friday afternoon, the singer could be heard upstairs at the Bridgestone — appearing on SiriusXM’s The Highway for the channel’s weekly “The Highway Hot 30 LIVE.” Timberlake joined host Storme Warren on the show’s weekly countdown.

Warren asked the Memphis native about his one-time dreams of being a country star. “They’re still alive,” Timberlake said. The host then proceeded to ask the singer about “Drink You Away,” a cut from his The 20/20 Experience, 2 of 2 album. Timberlake admitted there are several influences that are apparent on the track, including soul and R&B.
“I just did an interview earlier today and I said, ‘I’m America, that’s what I am — in all senses of the word,’ ” he said on the broadcast. “I grew up outside of Memphis, Tennessee, and I listened to country music, R&B music, classic rock…everything.”
With that said, Warren cued up the cut, to which Timberlake said, “Mama, I’ve made it. I’m on The Highway.” The interview closed with a question concerning his upcoming nominations at the American Music Awards — which include Artist of the Year, but also nods in the Pop, R&B and Soul categories. “I still got my eyes on a Best Country Album,” he said. “There’s time for that.”

If Timberlake did release a country-tinged project, it wouldn’t be his first time within the format. As a member of ‘N Sync, he sang harmonies on Alabama’s 1999 cover of “God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You,” and was a part of Reba McEntire‘s 2007 disc Duets, performing with her on “The Only Promise That Remains,” which he co-wrote.
