Kanye West Says He’s “Distancing” Himself From Politics

Kanye West, who has had made waves in recent weeks by voicing support for President Donald Trump, has apparently had his fill of politics. 

“My eyes are now wide open and now realize I’ve been used to spread messages I don’t believe in,” the musician tweeted Tuesday afternoon. “I am distancing myself from politics and completely focusing on being creative !!!”

Over the weekend, West debuted a line of apparel for the “Blexit” campaign that encouraged African-American voters to abandon the Democratic Party. It was introduced at Turning Point USA’s Young Black Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C.

However, on Tuesday, West tweeted that he had no association with the campaign. “I introduced Candace to the person who made the logo and they didn’t want their name on it so she used mine,” West said, referencing conservative pundit Candace Owens. “I never wanted any association with Blexit. I have nothing to do with it.”

Earlier this month, West met with Trump at the White House to speak about the Music Modernization Act — which Trump signed into law — among other topics. The meeting took place shortly after West claimed he was “bullied” by Saturday Night Live castmembers while appearing last month on the NBC late-night sketch series. The musician gave a pro-Trump speech, which never made it to air, after his final performance on the show’s 44th season premiere.
